The Craft

The craft of leatherworking is centuries old. We embrace and cherish that craft and treat every chair or genuine leather sofa by hand at Station7LAB in the Netherlands. The techniques applied to our hand-polished buffalo leather give each product a unique character and, with it, a luxurious look and quality. At Station7, you can choose from nine different colors: Cognac, Camel, Light Brown, Tobacco, Army Green, Cuba, Gray, Black, Liver. Because we color the chairs ourselves, it is even possible to create new colors especially for you on request. Which Vintage Art choice is your favorite?

Vintage look

No two Vintage Art chairs or benches from Station7 are the same, and every piece of buffalo leather furniture has its own vintage look. This gives each product its own identity. We are all familiar with mass-produced furniture with identical patterns and imitation imperfections. Our hand-polished buffalo leather has that character and sought-after imperfection all of its own. The craftsmanship, processing, treatment, and material make each polished buffalo leather product unique and therefore authentic. If you love these characteristics and an unconventional furniture collection, then hand-polished buffalo leather is the choice for you.

What is buffalo leather?

Instead of regular cowhide, we use buffalo leather. Buffalo skin is more robust and weathered than the ‘smooth’ cowhide. This gives the hand-polished buffalo leather just the character that many living rooms and lifestyles require.

Features hand-polished buffalo leather

The processing of buffalo leather begins with cleaning, salting, and splitting. The buffalo leather is then tanned, and after a period of drying, we receive the buffalo leather uncolored at our factory. Our colleagues then set to work cutting, trimming, stitching, and filling the buffalo leather with a suitable and comfortable filling. The result of all these steps is, for example, a seat for a leather chair or armchair or a cushion for a leather sofa. To give the buffalo leather the desired color, it is then rubbed by hand with a dye. This unique coloring method ensures that the buffalo leather retains its natural appearance. Color differences are unavoidable.

You can request leather samples from us to get a good idea of the color. However, please take into account that there may be variations in color due to the different color nuances within a single hide. The natural markings remain visible and give each piece of furniture a unique, natural, and rugged look. After coloring, we apply a protective layer to protect the leather furniture from spills, for example, but also from external influences such as sunlight and scratches. We recommend not placing the furniture in direct sunlight.

Unique hand-colored leather

Each piece of our buffalo leather is colored by hand using a traditional process. This makes every piece of furniture truly unique. No two hides are ever exactly the same: natural grains, textures, and color variations give the leather its character and soul.

Every color you choose is applied to the leather by us with love and craftsmanship. However, please note that the final color may always differ slightly from the sample you see in the store or that we send you on a swatch. This is not an imperfection, but proof that you have a natural product, a handmade process that cannot be copied.

This gives your piece of furniture its own inimitable look, a unique piece of craftsmanship that is yours alone.

Natural markings and creasing

Leather is made from animal hides. And because no two animals are alike, genuine leather furniture is also unique. Even the leather on two identical chairs will differ from each other. The natural markings visible in our leather furniture are caused by insect bites, wrinkles, skin folds, and healed scars, among other things. This makes our products unique; you can see the life that the buffalo led reflected in your furniture, as it were. The buffalo leather of a new chair or sofa usually looks smooth. But it doesn’t stay that way. Over time, natural creases will form. By sitting on it, you exert pressure on the buffalo leather and give off heat. The filling of the cushions also becomes softer. And that’s despite the fact that the buffalo leather is applied a little more generously to prevent the stitching from tearing. During use, more stretch occurs naturally, which inevitably leads to creases. This is also part of a natural product such as buffalo leather.

7 additional tips to enjoy your furniture for a long time:

✔️Sunlight and various types of artificial light cause leather to fade. Therefore, do not expose leather seating furniture to direct light. This will prevent the material from discoloring and/or fading prematurely.
✔️Pet nails can damage your furniture. Even the most robust types of leather are not resistant to this.
✔️Excessive heat dries out natural leather fibers. Therefore, never place your leather seating furniture too close to heat sources. If it is necessary to place a sofa near a radiator, make sure there is sufficient space between the floor, radiator, and seating furniture so that air can circulate properly and the moisture balance in the room and in the furniture is maximized.
✔️Ensure good humidity. For living rooms, we recommend a humidity of 45-55%, with an ideal temperature of between 18-22 degrees Celsius.
✔️Never use aggressive substances on the leather. No turpentine, chlorine, or other chemical agents.
✔️Be careful with sharp objects on the leather, such as belts or zippers. These can damage the leather.
✔️If a stain appears on your furniture, do not rub it vigorously. Carefully remove the stain with a tissue and dab it clean with a damp, but not too wet, cloth.
